#TRT100k Volunteer Spotlight: Dan
To celebrate reaching 100,000 volunteer hours, this week we will be highlighting some of the key volunteers that have helped us achieve this milestone. First up, we would like to introduce you all to Dan! Dan is a retired professional carpenter who currently serves on our Weekday Crew every Monday and Wednesday. Dan has contributed 1,500 of TRT's 100,000 volunteer hours. We are so fortunate that Dan chooses to use his wealth of expertise on our home repair projects, he is a HUGE help.
A little about Dan's involvement with our mission:
How did you first get involved with The Restoration Team:
A friend who is a member of Chapelwood UMC referred me to the team as she knew of my construction/carpentry background and thought it would be a good fit for me.
Do you have a favorite project/client/experience that you remember while serving with The Restoration Team:
Every different project has new challenges and that really helps to keep my interest. The fact that I can be challenged, enjoy the work and help other folks with skills I've had most of my life makes participation with the team a very worthwhile way to spend my retirement. The clients I have met have all been truly appreciative of the work we are doing for them. That is a very rewarding aspect of doing this work.
What does this ministry mean to you? Why do you keep coming back to serve:
I believe in giving back as you can. My wife and I both had successful careers, mine just happened to be in carpentry and construction. I am able to utilize skills I've had most of my life to help others. I do this work with a great bunch of guys and we enjoy working together. I believe that helping others is one of the best ways to make spiritual progress.
What would you tell someone looking to get involved with our ministry:
Our group of volunteers comes from a variety of work backgrounds. I happen to be the only one with actual construction/carpentry experience. I happily share what I have learned over the years with others and enjoy the teaching aspect of the work. No time constraints on the work we are doing. After all, we are there doing this work because we have a heartfelt desire to help. Come join us. There are lots of folks out there that don't have the means to properly repair their home and lots of opportunities exist for us to help them.
Thank you Dan for coming out week after week to serve our clients. You are a true difference-maker in the community!
