Betty's Home
Betty’s home became The Restoration Team’s 257th completed repair project in March of 2020. In fact, Betty’s home was the site of the last volunteer team TRT hosted before the pandemic shut down our volunteer program until the Fall. Fortunately, we were able to wrap up this repair right in the nick of time!
Betty’s home was flooded from Tropical Storm Imelda in September 2019. After the flood, Betty removed the bottom two feet of insulation and drywall but needed help finishing the repairs. We were able to come in and replace the interior drywall, replace the roof, remove and replace two sides of rotted siding, and replace the fence. In total, this project cost $9,164.
This family was brought to our attention by St. Luke’s United Methodist. One of their members and longtime TRT volunteer, Jon, served as the volunteer lead from beginning to end. Much of the labor was performed with SERJobs (a job training program that The Restoration Team partners with to teach skills and share experience) and the AmeriCorps NCCC (a national service program). 34 volunteers spent 564 hours serving on this home to make it livable again.
