Welcome Home, Annie!
Annie is home! Three months of love and labor went into this top-to-bottom transformation and we couldn’t be more proud of how it all turned out.
Annie has lived in her Northeast Houston home for the past seventy years ever since she moved from East Texas as a young girl in 1955. It was here that she raised four children, hosted family gatherings, and made all of her memories. Annie worked in the Harris County hospital system her whole adult life - cleaning rooms and answering the phones - before a much-deserved retirement. We were introduced to Annie through a referral from her pastor at Kashmere Gardens Missionary Baptist Church, where she has been a faithful member for years.
Over time, age and issues had left her home in dire need of repairs. Together with your support, we were able to replace the roof, repair siding, replace windows, hang all new drywall, upgrade the electric and plumbing, repair the foundation, lay floors, install all new doors, and restore the kitchen and bathroom. Before we started work, Annie suffered from so many plumbing issues, her most recent water bill was $1,600.
We have a lot of people to thank that made this project possible. 78 individual volunteers from all over the country spent over 2,000 hours serving this home. Special thanks to Empower CDC for serving as the primary funder for this home and for their continued investment in our community.
This project came to a close in the best way possible - a Welcome Home Celebration with Annie, her friends, family, church, and all of the men and women that made these repairs possible. We came together in fellowship, broke bread, shared stories, and made sure Annie knew just how loved she is. It was a day to remember for a family we’ll never forget.
If you would like to get involved in similar stories just like Annie’s, we have a place for you! As a ministry, we need your gifts, time, talents, and prayers to bring more families home. As a 501c3 nonprofit, your donations will go straight into a home in desperate need of repairs and improvements. We can’t do this without you!
