Remembering Hurricane Harvey - 5 Years Later

Hurricane Harvey changed everything for Houston five years ago. Though it can be difficult to relive the catastrophic floods and the hardships brought on to hundreds of thousands of families across the Texas Gulf Coast, we will never forget the resiliency of a city coming together.

In the days, weeks, and months following the storm, our city went to work, serving our neighbors and trying to make every day a bit better than the last. We mucked and gutted, we remediated mold, we repaired homes, and we restored lives. Family after family. Home after home. Hundreds and thousands of times.
Hurricane Harvey and its damaging effects may be a distant memory for some, but far too many families are still picking up the pieces and making their way towards a safe, livable home.

The Restoration Team was founded in Harvey's wake when four local congregations (Chapelwood UMC, St. Paul's UMC, St. Luke's UMC, and Westbury UMC) came together to figure out a long-term strategy to respond and rebuild. In the five years since, we have spent every day in the community, repairing homes and loving on families in their darkest days. We've come a long way and we have a long way to go. Through the storm and in blue skies, we are here for Houston.

God bless us all!
