#TRT100k Volunteer Spotlight: Bob

To celebrate reaching 100,000 volunteer hours, this week we will be highlighting some of the key volunteers that have helped us achieve this milestone. Today we would like to highlight Bob - a former advertising copywriter and current TRT board member who consistently volunteers in retirement. Bob has used his professional experience to help us immensely on the marketing side of things.

A little about Bob’s involvement with our mission:

How did you first get involved with The Restoration Team:

I started helping with a team from St. Paul’s UMC right after Hurricane Harvey. Mucking houses was the first order of business.

Do you have a favorite project/client/experience that you remember while serving with The Restoration Team:

A favorite was a 5th Ward home that I drove a group of Mennonites from Pennsylvania to and then worked with them to hang sheetrock and tape and float several rooms. They were hard workers - men and women - and we accomplished a great deal in a single day.

What does this ministry mean to you? Why do you keep coming back to serve?

There are so many homes that have been damaged by catastrophes in Houston that are still in the queue to be restored. The owners don’t have the money or help to get them back to liveable conditions. I feel that my volunteer hours help make a dent in this situation, and I enjoy getting to know the owners while I am working.

What would you tell someone looking to get involved with our ministry?

It is very fulfilling personally and helps neighbors in our city who need our help. It is not hard, there is great supervision from TRT professionals, and you work alongside some special folks.

Thank you, Bob, for your generous support over the years. We are so lucky that you are part of the TRT family!
